Benny Benson Memorial Park
Even on a cloudy day, the freshly painted sign at Benny Benson Memorial Park really pops!
...But have you ever noticed the BACK side of the memorial. The rocks are set in the shape of Alaska!
lagoon boardwalk
The lagoon boardwalk is dedicated to former Seward resident and businessman Dale Bird Clemens. Originally from North Dakota, Dale and his family moved to Seward in 1969. Dale taught PE and coached the basketball team, which he led to a number of championships.
He was an avid horseman, hunter and outdoorsman, and, until 1977, he and his sons ran horse pack trips in Resurrection Pass for hunting and fishing. He served as President of the Seward Chamber of Commerce Board and was a member of the Elks and the VFW.
In 1987, he was chosen as Citizen of the Year, in part, for organizing and seeing the completion of the lagoon boardwalk project.
Seward Parks and Rec helps the US Navy maintain their historic anchor. Look closely at the anchor and you’ll see it’s from 1942 and weighs 3,485 pounds!
SPRD will use special paint to refurbish the anchor.
seward elementary school
Behold the new Seward Elementary School sign! Local Artist J. Leslie refurbished the old sign as a Seward Artists In Schools project, and it looks spectacular! Nearly every student in the school got to help paint the sign.
Special thanks to the Seward Community Foundation, Seward Arts Council, Seward PTSA, and Phil Zimmerman for the install!
Projects like this and all of the Seward Artists In Schools programs only happen because of the generous support of our community.
Bear Proof Trash Cans
Local artists created some awesome designs on the bear proof trash cans that line Fourth Ave. These handy cans are new as part of the Seward Cares for its Bears campaign from the Resurrection Bay Conservation Alliance.
From the whimsical to the realistic, these functional art pieces liven up the downtown and keep our nosy neighbors out of the trash!

lee poleske
The waterfront has a new addition. The Seward Iditarod Trail Blazers commissioned this wonderful memorial bench and statue as tribute to beloved Seward historian, Lee Poleske.
Look closely, he’s wearing his Trail Blazers jacket.
